Perfectly Imperfect transforms trees into dynamic canvases, projecting shapes and colors that explore the trajectory of perception while embracing the wabi-sabi philosophy—the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and the organic flow of nature. This site-specific artwork reflects on how our brains construct reality through layers of interpretation, engaging with the natural irregularities that define the world around us.
The light projections feature simple forms that rely on the viewer’s imagination to complete them—a process known as perceptual completion. The work also incorporates anamorphosis, where distorted projections align only from specific vantage points, encouraging viewers to explore from multiple perspectives.
Combined with the movement of wind, foliage, and uneven tree surfaces, the shifting lights become part of an ever-evolving collaboration with nature. This merging of light, perception, and nature celebrates the beauty found in imperfection and the ever-changing patterns of life.
