Supersymmetry, 2018

Supersymmetry is a light artwork originating from a sculptural brass body containing three, single-color LEDs. The single color travels through curved lenses and thin-film filters, diverging prior to converging on the projected surface.

The artist normally works in the field of kinetic animation. Perpendicular – but not completely opposite –  this static, non-animated light artwork encourages viewers to interact with light and space as one.

The artwork draws inspiration from the artist’s favorite book, The Lightness of Being, by Frank Wilczek and attempts to convey the important concept of Supersymmetry.

The multiple dimensions contained in the artwork – both body and emanation – mirror the multiple dimensions covered in The Lightness of Being.

Photons exit the base through a lens, separate into different wavelengths, and eventually rejoin.
