Fan of Spectrum began as a happy accident in a hot summer warehouse in Los Angeles. Yamashita arrived with only dichroic film and discovered, while playing with PAR lights and the reflections of their spectrums, that a commercial fan at the venue could move the film to fan white light into a shifting spectrum across the wall. Experimenting with subtle angles, the installation evolved in real time, revealing dynamic spreads of color and motion.
Yamashita enjoys these improvisational “aha” moments, exploring the features and limitations of a space and materials to create unexpected, exciting experiences.
